Why do you “Pray the Word” over the kids?

The Word says it best:

  • Isaiah 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void; but it shall accomplish what I please and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
  • Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
  • Ps 33:9 – “For He spoke and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast.

With a tool and weapon this powerful, why use anything else?

Why do this with other moms?

There is a story of a herd of oxen under attack by a pack of wolves. The wolves were after their young. As the wolves approached, the adult oxen gathered into an unbroken circle with the young in the center.  As long as they remained in this position, the wolves could not penetrate. The back hooves are the strongest weapons an ox has.

Have you ever watched the stories about the African elephants when protecting their young? The herd gathers in a circle with the young in the center. They face outward with their strongest weapons, their trunks, and tusks, facing their enemy.

We are like that herd of oxen and elephants surrounding our young from a very real enemy. Nature teaches us how to protect our young, and scripture gives us the tools.

Through prayer and intercession, we build a spiritual hedge around our children providing protection. We fill in gaps that have developed from hurt, pain, complacency, or just plain sin. Broken hedges allow the enemy in to harass (Ecclesiastes 10:8), trample (Isaiah 5:5), ruin, and steal (Psalm 80:12). Together, we stand in these gaps and build a hedge.

Do I have to fast? Can’t I just pray?

You do not have to fast. If you or moms in your group are willing to join others but can’t fast due to medications or physical limitations, by all means, join and pray! Please don’t let the whole “fasting” thing keep you from binding with others to build spiritual hedges for breakthrough. However, the Word teaches that it is a powerful thing to join prayer with fasting.

Can I fast something besides food?

YES! To fast is to abstain from something. If you can’t fast food, what about fasting time watching TV, or time surfing the net? If you have a sweet tooth, what about fasting sweets for that day? Ask the Lord what He would have you fast; even a small step towards fasting shows a willingness and obedience. This is what God honors – not how long you can go without food!
