One Sunday morning during worship, a deep ache rose in me, and hot tears streamed down my face. I stopped singing and just wept and prayed quietly. My daughter looked over at me and asked, “What’s wrong?” I couldn’t answer. I was in deep intercession and I wasn’t sure for what. Then the Lord showed me a picture of women pacing at the top, flat area of a castle or fortress— the Keep. This is where soldiers would pace and watch over the land surrounding the kingdom – watching for anything threatening their King and country. A place where they could see far and wide and sound the alarm when they saw danger.

This is where we are ladies. Pacing, watching, waiting, alert and ready to sound the alarm and fight if necessary.

By agreeing to intercede on behalf of our kids, we are watching, waiting, and guarding from an unseen enemy. The enemy doesn’t necessarily have to be Satan—although he is definitely after this generation. With young children, it can be fears, a broken home, an absent parent, or school bullies. With teens, it can be sex, drugs, drinking, cults, violence, depression, or the wrong crowd. It can even be complacency, boredom, a world mind-set. I could go on and on. Throughout the Word, the Lord has called his people to intercede on behalf of others. Who better to intercede for kids but the very women who birthed them?

When we intercede, we join with the heart of God on behalf of others.

  • Moses interceded on behalf of the children of Israel.
  • David interceded on the King’s behalf when he struck down the giant.
  • Elijah interceded for the righteousness of God when he took on Jezebel.

Do you see a pattern here? This is the heart that sent His Son on our behalf to intercede for us.

When we fast and intercede, we sacrifice on behalf of the person(s) we are praying for, and make room in our spirit to be more attentive to God and His purposes.  Throughout the Word, we see that intercession, accompanied by fasting, can move mountains, heal diseases, and move the hearts of humanity.

Weather you choose to fast or not, go into your time of intercession expecting to hear from God!  He may have something for you personally, your child, or if you are in a prayer group, the other kids your group is interceding for.

Come to His table of sacrifice expecting!
